These are New World orchids that are sometimes considered to be the weeds of the orchid family. Any weed would be proud to possess such glorious blooms, however! This is one of the largest orchid genera and it is comprised of about 1000 species, all of which are found in the Americas. These are among the most popular of the cultivated orchids.
