These are photographs that struck a whimsical note. There is no particular theme to the collection other than the feeling of whimsy. All were photographed with a Minolta 7000i SLR camera, most with a Sigma 200 mm zoom lens.
Carousel
This is a time-exposure of a carousel at a traveling fair and it has not been retouched in any way. The significance of the image is that my father saw it and decided to paint it. He had never painted before and he painted for the rest of his life.
Resort Motel
Does this look like your home away from home or what! There are all kinds of stories in the history of this motel. Unfortunately, most of them involve Anthony Perkins.
The place looks utterly dilapidated but notice all the electronic hardware on the water tower.
Nephew in Sprinkler
This is my nephew playing with a lawn sprinkler. It didn't take much to make a kid happy back then.
Commuter Dog
You can write your own punchline but here are some starters:
- "Like it's not crowded enough on the road already without allowing all these damn people on it."
- "Two years of obedience school just to learn how to sit in a traffic jam on I-75."
- "Mike Tyson bites people and I drive him home. What's wrong with this picture?"
- "She said she was just going to run in to get some dog biscuits. That was half an hour ago."
- Ta dum dum....
Flea-sy Rider
It's really not clear from the photograph who's driving this bike. As with the Commuter Dog, the photograph was not staged; it was just shot when the opportunity presented itself.
