Discus fish are extraordinarily beautiful freshwater tropical fish that originate in the Amazon River area. After seeing Discus fish, no other aquarium fish will have the same appeal. Their extraordinary elegance and magnificent colors are almost beyond description. The purpose of this site is to tell you of my experiences with breeding Discus fish and to provide useful links to Discus fish resources.

Never having any luck with raising Discus fish typically translates to taking them to your home aquarium and then feeling helpless while they die. It can also mean having healthy Discus fish who never get around to mating. I was lucky on both counts. Wilson and Aretha were my first Turquoise Discus and yet they paired off and seemed to want nothing more than to mate with each other.

The Discus fish were in a 55-gallon aquarium that wasn't set up in any special way beyond an external filter. Maintenance was what one would typically perform for any community aquarium. Nevertheless, Wilson and Aretha thrived in it.

I didn't have any luck in raising the fry past a certain point and this is why I eventually stopped. The greatest success was with the Blues Brothers, a mob of ten or twelve juniors who lived for quite some time. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures and will therefore rely on links to other sites to show you about Discus fish.
