Shut Up and Play

OK, I did. Twice! I hadn't played at all the last couple of days and didn't play anything prior to picking up the guitar for the gig at The Yard Ethereal. It's a pretty wild venue that makes it feel like you're playing in outer space. Torben Asp built it and sister hexx played there about a week ago. At first it was the same old stuff as the place was deserted and I was thinking, damn, this is the first time I've played for him and no-one is going to show.

But even Zak Claxton showed up! And the Homeless Martian was there as well plus he followed it up with quite a nice review. You can check it out with the link to his blog in the sidebar.

There was also a late gig at Red Palms and this one followed Grateful Stryker. That set is another great combination like doing double-headers with sister hexx. I feel very much more akin to the performers who do open-ended tunes in gigs and don't like playing whatever it is the same way they did it the last time. Grateful and hexx are like that and I am as well, mostly because I don't even remember how I did it the last time.

Things are tight with Grateful for a lot of reasons but both of us fell mad in love with the Godin xtSA guitar. I think I'm still one up on him as I have two of them but he's got me on the gadgets as I think he uses more devices than I employ. It's remarkable how many of them are the same, tho, as both of us love the Boss GT10 and each of us courted one of those for quite a while before we got one. I'm not sure if he uses the same looper (Boss RC50) but he definitely uses the same Roland GR20 guitar synth and he uses it quite a bit more than I. Well, he uses it in different ways as I don't typically solo the synthesizer on the guitar but I almost always have a synth sound backing the guitar to fatten the sound up.
