Blog Changes
The link to videos in the sidebar is gone but, surprisingly enough, the Video tab at the top of the screen will get you to video stuff only now it's coming in from iLike. This is the same deal as putting the music stuff on iLike so now the video is up there as well. The theme is very kozmic: more stuff, less effort.
At first I was bugged that the iLike stuff won't show up on FaceBook but I don't think it really matters as I think going in there is what it must be like to use nitrous oxide and Twitter is definitely that way. I tried Plurk but haven't the faintest idea why anyone would want to do it. Skipping by editorials on social networking and any metaphors about brain cancer, we get to what it's all about which is to make the Soup stir better. If it's easier to upload stuff and have it magically propagate through this site then that makes it more likely for me to do it.
I will keep Facebook and the reasons are that it has very good integration with the iPhone so I can upload pics, quick updates, etc. I don't want to set up the laptop every time I want to blog something or I wouldn't call that much of a cure. One example is that I could have uploaded the pic from Cylindrian's gig while the gig was going on and later sent up the high-quality pics from the Bibicam.
(Irrelevant side-note: Now that the car isn't blowing a tire every time it hits a pothole and breaking a wheel on every third or fourth hit, its behavior is now civilized enough to warrant a name for the car. Henceforth it shall be known as the Rutabagamobile and it shall proudly bear a bumper sticker to that effect as soon as the effin' snow melts.)
The gainers are that I'll abandon MySpace except for links to places that matter to me. I'll abandon YouTube but leave up the videos I've got there already. I never really liked or even understood The Sixty-One anyway so that one is going too.
It should also be possible to blow away Flickr as that would be absorbed by the picture gallery that's all part of the Apple integration. Or possibly the answer is to leave it there but link it back here. All new stuff would go to the Apple gallery and it shouldn't be any big conflict as most of the Flickr stuff is when I was being all arty.
